How we help

Since 1987, our non-profit association in Austria has built and operated accommodation for families with ill or injured children close to the hospital. At our Ronald McDonald Houses in Vienna, Wiener Neustadt, Graz and Salzburg, around 1,700 families each year find a home away from home.

This gives families the opportunity to stay close to the specialist hospitals providing treatment throughout the treatment period, allowing them to be there for their children day and night. Without high costs, long journeys or having to leave their other children alone.

This approach reflects the principle of Family-Centered Care – family-centred care – in which the family is regarded as a central part of care and recovery. Staying close to family has been shown to speed recovery by up to one third and is therefore an effective part of the healing process.

At Ronald McDonald House, we believe that no family should have to choose between staying close to their child and having a place to rest and recharge. That is why we give them more than just a room.

We provide a sense of normality – even when nothing seems normal anymore. Because when a child is in hospital, their family stays. And we stay by their side.
