LKH Feldkirch
LKH Feldkirch is Vorarlberg’s main hospital and an academic teaching hospital. Its Department of Paediatrics and Adolescent Medicine treats patients from premature babies to adolescents with acute and chronic conditions. The department includes an intensive care unit, a general paediatric ward and various outpatient clinics.
The general paediatric ward treats children with various internal medical conditions and performs diagnostic examinations such as MRI scans and specialist neurological diagnostics. Certain examinations take place in close cooperation with other specialist departments, including surgery.
Children with chronic conditions such as diabetes, asthma or rare metabolic disorders are also admitted when treatment needs to be adjusted, further examinations are required or their condition worsens.
The department also cares for children transferred from intensive care to the general paediatric ward, supporting them medically until discharge and helping their families prepare for care at home.
Children admitted for surgery are prepared for their operation and cared for afterwards together with the surgical teams. Children with acute conditions may also be admitted for inpatient treatment following assessment in the outpatient clinic or emergency department.
